At COMPREHENSIVE PAIN & REGENERATIVE CENTER, we know just how seriously you take your medical weight loss, and we do too. We use a comprehensive system, personalized by your trained doctor at our Medical Weight Loss Mercerville NJ location. Considering all your personal goals, body type and metabolism, we will craft the ideal program for you.

Medical weight loss is a program of weight management based on medical scientific evidence that targets the root causes of obesity and weight gain.

Medical weight loss is designed to help any individual with his or her specific weight loss goals, whether to lose 100 pounds or those last stubborn ten pounds. Dr Gribbin will provide the treatment and guidance necessary to help you achieve weight loss and maintain it for life.

What makes this program different?

The tools that Dr. Gribbin utilizes to help you manage your weight are very different from what you might find with commercial programs. During the first consultation, Dr. Gribbin will obtain and explain body composition. An exact percentage of body fat, water, and muscle will be obtained. Based on this analysis, the appropriate program is designed individually for each patient.

Throughout the program your metabolism and body composition (mainly fat, water and muscle percentage) is used as a true indicator of the weight loss progress, something other plans cannot do.

How does it work?

Affiliated with The Center for Medical Weight Loss, Dr Gribbin will guide you through different plans from the CFWL and the one that will best suit you, to work with you on an individual level.

Behavioral counseling is a part of any plan you follow, which will teach you the skills necessary to maintain your weight loss for the long term.

The Center for Medical Weight Loss program was created to acknowledge and treat the unique, very personal challenges every person looking to lose weight faces. Our belief is that because weight by its very nature is a medical issue, there is no better person to help people achieve their weight loss goals than a medical provider.

90% of the patients who engage in the program can lose 16 pounds in 6 weeks and maintain body weight for at least one year.

The program elements include:

  • Low Calorie Diet
  • Exercise Program
  • Vitamins and Food Supplements

To maintain a healthy metabolism and optimal weight we need to get into a perfect balance of sleep, diet, and exercise.

Many medical conditions and lifestyle habits may disturb the equilibrium and cause weight gain as a result. Maintenance of a natural circadian rhythm and peace of mind is crucial. Health and wellness are based on the ability to control medical diseases and psychological difficulties associated with stress caused by environment and daily events.

DIET – composition, portions, schedule/timing, cravings

We are focusing on dietary composition, meals schedule and timing, portion control and cravings habits. We often forget that the most important food for the human body is water – hydration, hydration, hydration!

Dietary composition is different for each individual and may vary depending on the allergies, season of the year, state of health and disease. Different diets would be recommended for somebody with diabetes and different for somebody with kidney disease or thyroid problem. In general food intake must be adjusted according to the content of nutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fiber, etc..) as well as calories consumed per day.

Portions– use a large plate for a small amount of food. Plated meals rather than family style food display on the table facilitates reasonable portion control.

Schedule your meals wisely: large breakfast, medium lunch, and small dinner. As far as I see we practice just the opposite schedule in our society. My grandma used to say, “have your breakfast alone, lunch with your friend and dinner – give it away to your enemy”. In our society dinners are usually the biggest meals, when all family comes home in the evening and socializes at the dinner table. Give yourself at least 45 min to consume a meal. Eat slowly. Our brain gets the signal of satiety with some delay – after 20 minutes of stopping the sensation of hunger. Do not eat after 6 pm. Instead, have a pleasant activity scheduled before bedtime. Look forward to a nice walk, good book, relaxing conversation and favorite music or aromatic warm bubble bath before going to sleep.

Cravings may be reduced and eventually eliminated with behavioral modification techniques. Discovering yourself and engaging in activities that bring you joy, finding a passion and purpose will eliminate cravings and you will stop eating without being hungry. Food for gratification will not be uncontrolled.

FOOD SUPPLEMENTATION / VITAMINS

Our food requires vitamins, antioxidants and microelements supplementation Vitamin composition is recommended by your doctor on an individual basis.

Vit D3, B 12, Vit C, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, zinc, fiber, and antioxidants are paired with natural products which will increase metabolism and facilitate elimination of unwanted adipose tissue (fat).

EXERCISE

Exercise prescription will vary. Arthritis, back pain, cardiac problems, lungs conditions, hypertension, weakness, numbness, and other neurological conditions will require very specific prescriptions designed on an individual basis.

Exercise should improve muscle strength and muscle mass, cardiovascular and pulmonary performance, improved mobility and calories loss.

Aerobic, supra-aerobic, isometric, isotonic and isokinetic exercises are paired with exercises which will improve the body shape (core exercises and lower or upper extremities limbering) are recommended on an individual basis.

SLEEP

All adults should sleep 8-9 hours a day. Professor Moss Cornell University spent most of his professional career on research in the field of sleep and its influence on human organisms. He summarized his work in a well-known book called “Power of Sleep”. Homo sapiens functions during the day and sleeps at night. Often reversal of circadian rhythm is a necessity (for example night shift work) which may be the source of many physiological problems, somatic and psychological diseases.

Improvement of quality of sleep and optimal amount of sleep is imperative in medical weight loss programs.

THREE MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS PHASES

Medical Weight Loss program phases depend on the goals which are discussed and agreed upon by the patient and the physician. First, we choose a preliminary goal. Next the final goal. Then we maintain the optimal weight – during the maintenance phase.

  1. Preliminary
  2. Final
  3. Maintenance

During the first phase, which is focused on achieving the preliminary goal most often weekly consultations are required until the preliminary goal is reached.

During the second phase, which is focused on achieving the final ideal weight weekly or biweekly consultations are conducted.

Maintenance phase requires biweekly consultations, which are gradually tapered down to monthly, bimonthly, quarterly and on as needed basis consultations.
